Anne Meagher-Cook

After a long career in art-related fields, Anne Meagher-Cook discovered the joy of painting en plein air, which combines her love of art with the great outdoors. She loves painting in the beautiful environment of northern Virginia, soaking up her surroundings and using oils, brushes and palette knife to convey an expression of each place and moment in time.

Michael L. Jackson

Michael L Jackson received his Fine Arts degrees in painting at Wayne State University in Detroit. He has exhibited oil paintings, watercolors, and drawings in many group and juried exhibits over many years, most recently at The Art League Gallery in Alexandria and the Art Center of Great Falls. Still inspired by the challenge of capturing the complexities of light, color, form, and space in nature, he has taken up “plein air” landscape painting over the last three years, while continuing to work with figures and still life subjects.

Amelia Cheuk

Amelia Cheuk completed her studies in Los Angeles under the guidance of world renowned painter, the late Larry Gluck.  She joined the NOVA Plein Air Artists and enjoys the fun and fellowship of frequently painting with all the fine painters of the group. Amelia also cherishes the chance of regularly painting at the National Gallery of Art, being one of few approved painters with museum permit to copy directly from original master paintings.

Anne Alden

Anne Alden had many creative hobbies throughout the years and only discovered painting after retirement. Oils quickly became her medium of choice. It’s been exciting for her to be able to capture her lifelong love of nature and gardening on canvas. The many friendships developed through painting with others is her greatest joy. Anne Alden’s work has been exhibited at Green Spring Gardens, The Art of Great Falls , Virginia Art Factory and Art at the Mill.  Anne has been an active member of NOVA Plein Air Artists since it began in 2016. 

Irmeli Ylinen

Herndon, VA based Finnish American oil painter, Irmeli Ylinen has been an artist for over 20 years painting landscapes, still-lifes, and portraits.  In her landscape paintings she is drawn to convey nature’s beauty and peace.  With its power to calm, recharge and heal, she hopes her paintings help counter the turbulent world around us.  Aside from having a BA degree and performed Graduate Studies in painting, she is always looking for ways to grow as a painter and has exhibited her paintings in the United States and internationally. Laura Bollettino

Artist, Laura Bollettino is originally from the San Francisco Bay Area and now resides in Oakton, Virginia.  Her passion for capturing landscapes in plein air tradition with her trusty palette knife  find her traveling frequently to find places that move her.  Color and the emotional reaction it inspires are at the heart of her work.  Laura was awarded a second place honor at the Art Guild of Clifton Plein Painting En Plein Air 2019.

Margaret Power

Margaret Power is a plein air painter living in Northern Virginia.  Plein Air painting combines her love of art and the outdoors. In addition to painting with her NOVA Plein Air Artists friends, she has taken classes at the Torpedo factory in Alexandria, the Atelier in Great Falls, and in workshops throughout the country.

Marilyn Miyamoto

Marilyn Miyamoto is the co-founding member of Nova Plein Air Artists. Her work features landscapes, still life, and portraits.  She received her BFA from Rhode Island School of Design, and continued her graduate studies at Wesleyan University in Connecticut and California State University at Long Beach.  Marilyn focused primarily in Jewelry/Metalsmithing while in graduate school showing at galleries throughout the United States, but has transitioned to oil painting.  She was an art teacher for Fairfax County Schools and was the recipient of the Robert Rauschenberg Foundation, Power of Art Award, for Teaching. 

Maureen Guillot

Maureen Guillot primarily prefers to paint landscapes en plein air using oil paints, capturing the many changing colors and movements in nature.  She also paints landscapes and the human subject with pastels.  She has lived in Manassas for 48 years with her husband and three adult children.

Rachel Garcia Palmer

From a young age, Rachel’s creativity and visual sensibilities molded her passions and interests and have led her to a life-long pursuit of artistic endeavors. She concentrated on illustration and interior design while studying art at Northern Virginia Community College and went on to have a successful mural business operating in the DMV area. For the past several years Rachel has balanced her time as a plein air artist and an instructor, teaching water-color painting to seniors at long-term care facilities. She is the co-founder of the NOVA Plein Air Artists which is now a group of 20 artists. Prior to the pandemic, the group met weekly and painted at various outdoor locations in the DMV area. Plein Air resonates with Rachel for the community building, artist networking and the ability to take in nature and capture it. Working in plein air is a challenging and fast practice, as the light and conditions shift with each brush stroke.

Paula Cottrell

Paula Cottrell majored in Fine Art at the University of Oklahoma working in a variety of mediums. Paula is a member of NOVA Plein Air Painters painting primarily in Northern Virginia, the District of Columbia, and Maryland. Paula is an avid student honing her technique with a variety of renowned instructors, traveling as far as Italy to study art and Plein Air techniques. Her work has been exhibited at: The Art Factory, Manassas, VA; Art at the Mill, Clark County, VA; The Waterford Fair Fine Art Exhibit, Waterford, VA; The League of Reston Artists at the Rose Gallery, Reston, VA; The Arts at Great Falls, Great Falls, VA; Green Spring Gardens, Alexandria, VA: Art in Public Places, Morgan Stanley, Alexandria, VA; and The Yellow Barn Gallery, Glen Echo Park, Maryland.

Theresa Miller

Theresa finds it most satisfying to paint en plein air whenever and wherever she can, and looks forward to her weekly painting sessions with NPAA, in private gardens and in public parks in her neighborhood in the greater Washington DC area. Theresa loves to paint in her home studio in Vienna, VA,  and at The Artists’ Atelier in Great Falls, VA. With the guidance of mentors and teachers, still life painting from life and Plein Air painting has greatly helped her move forward as an artist. She is a Copyist in the Copyist Program of the National Gallery of Art in Washington DC.
