Drawing from wood\, glass\, cardboard\, metal\, plastic\, and textiles—often recovered from dumpsters or curbside castoffs\, the exhibition explores themes of resilience\, healing\, and transformation through richly layered\, evocative compositions.Rooted in sustainability and personal renewal\, Williams’s practice reimagines overlooked materials into cohesive works that blur the boundaries between fine art and functional design. Mirrors\, room dividers\, connectors\, and windmills appear alongside wall-based collages\, challenging traditional notions of utility while emphasizing the poetic potential of reuse.The artist’s creative journey began in 2017 while participating in art therapy through the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs’ substance abuse and mental health program. A U.S. Navy veteran living with PTSD\, Williams discovered art as both a therapeutic outlet and a powerful form of self-expression. In 2018\, the collage Love (Thyself) and Resilience received First Place in its category at the National Veterans Creative Arts Festival—an achievement that marked a pivotal moment and solidified a lifelong commitment to artistic practice.Since then\, Williams has exhibited work in Washington\, D.C. and New York\, continuing to expand a portfolio that centers on repurposing—not only of physical materials\, but of personal identity. This gathering was created for Black and Brown women who want a different kind of Sunday — one that feels like exhaling. \nWe’ll open with a guided meditation to quiet the noise and bring you into the present moment. From there\, Roco will lead a live collage demonstration — not to teach you the “right” way\, but to show you that there isn’t one. Then\, you’ll create your own piece. No instructions to follow. DESCRIPTION:This class is designed for younger students ages 5-8 to begin to learn the fundamentals of acting such as storytelling\, creative movement\, vocalization\, and confidence in front of a group. \nThe goal of this class is for students to learn these skills in a way that is fun and enjoyable\, while also creating a safe environment for students to feel like they can explore. In order to accomplish this\, the class is designed with emphasis on different activities and games as opposed to a singular performance. \nWe will utilize familiar and classic children’s stories\, such as Peter Rabbit\, The Rainbow Fish\, The Three Little Pigs\, etc. to build on these skills. Using known stories allows the children to learn how to be creative while still offering a framework for them to follow. For example\, if the story we were looking at that day was The Three Little Pigs\, we might explore how to act as a pig vs wolf by changing how we move and use our voices\, talk about breath support by “blowing down the houses”\, and of course act out the story using all of those elements. \nIn addition to stories we will also play games that encourage creativity and teamwork.  These help students grow an awareness of different ways they can move their bodies\, as well as strengthens their listening skills. DESCRIPTION:Join artist Michele Frantz for a 5 lesson session in acrylic painting! \nVersatile and forgiving\, acrylic paints may be manipulated with a wide array of techniques\, applied to many different surfaces\, and modified with various additives. \nStudents new to acrylics will learn introductory basics; experienced students will improve their skills and explore new directions. \nClass is offered throughout the year with a different approach presented in each session. \nClick here for a list of supplies.
