The panel of local authors, “Factual Fiction,” will explore how to ensure authenticity while writing in a fictional world.
The panelists include the following Northern Virginia authors:
Bryan Nowak (Panel Moderator):
Bryan Nowak lives in Northern Virginia with his wife and three adult kids. Born in the summer of 1973, he could be found at his school’s library, drinking in books written to tingle your spine and give you goosebumps.
After 17 years serving in the Army, he looked inward and decided to spend time playing with the imaginary voices in his head, so he took to the keyboard in 2013. You can find him reading books written by contemporary horror writers, or just about any published work which strikes his fancy.
When not reading, he plays video games and does the bidding of an obstinate terrier named Chloe, who runs the show.

Michael Thompson:
Michael Thompson is an author and illustrator from Northern Virginia known for his award-winning Winslow Hoffner series, a folkloric fantasy adventure on the high seas featuring legendary aquatic cryptids that few have seen, as told by one fisherman who happens to have seen them all. Recognized in the Feathered Quill Book Awards, Readers’ Favorite, and the international Writers’ Digest Writing Competition, Michael’s work features dynamic characters, witty dialogue, and fast-paced storytelling with emphasis on adventure, humor, and heart.
