“Rhythm & Hues” by René Dickerson

November 12 – December 14, 2025
Artist Reception: Saturday, November 15, 6-8 PM

The ARTfactory proudly announces a special exhibition featuring the celebrated artist René Dickerson, whose visionary works bridge the worlds of fine art, jazz, and Motown. The exhibition, titled “Rhythm & Hues”, will open on November 12 and run through December 14 at the ARTfactory. An Opening Artist Reception will be held on Saturday, November 15 from 6-8 PM.

Born in Oakland, California, Dickerson’s creative journey began early—his father, inspired by surrealist René Magritte, named him after the Belgian master. A self-taught artist, Dickerson gained early recognition at the Alameda County Fair, where he earned multiple awards before launching a successful career in both military and commercial design. His signature style blends cubism, surrealism, and vibrant emotional realism, reflecting a lifetime dedicated to artistic innovation.

By the 1990s, Dickerson was exhibiting at the prestigious Union Square Gallery in San Francisco, where his works caught the attention of Otis Williams of The Temptations. Williams became a collector and lifelong supporter, introducing Dickerson’s art to luminaries such as Berry Gordy and Oprah Winfrey. Their creative friendship later led to a licensing agreement for limited-edition “My Girl” prints, honoring the Motown classic.

Now based in the Historic Manassas area, Dickerson continues to evolve his craft through his unique “Linear Art” style—an expressive fusion of line, motion, and form. His new series celebrates the energy of jazz, soul, and pop culture, inspired by his ongoing collaborations with the Jazz Legacy Foundation (nine years) and the Ocean City Jazz Festival in Topsail, North Carolina.

The upcoming exhibition will feature both new Linear Art works and select pieces from Dickerson’s acclaimed Motown collection, including his celebrated “My Girl” series created in tribute to Smokey Robinson and The Temptations.
