Cut From the Heart: Collage Journey Guided by the Heart
In honor of Black Women’s History Month, Detox Art invites you into something softer — a space where creativity isn’t a performance, and expression isn’t graded.
Cut from the Heart is a mindfulness-based collage experience hosted in partnership with Moredinary Art and led by artist Roco. This gathering was created for Black and Brown women who want a different kind of Sunday — one that feels like exhaling.
We’ll open with a guided meditation to quiet the noise and bring you into the present moment. From there, Roco will lead a live collage demonstration — not to teach you the “right” way, but to show you that there isn’t one. Then, you’ll create your own piece. No instructions to follow. No finished product to achieve. Just you, your intuition, and whatever wants to come forward.
Collage is one of the most forgiving art forms there is. It’s tearing, layering, choosing, releasing — and in that process, something true tends to emerge.
Invitation to Join the Honorary Alter:
Within this sacred space, we’re holding space for women: past and present, living and transitioned. If you’d like to pay homage to us, bring a physical photo (framed or not), and place it on the altar or at your work station, whatever is most comfortable for you.
This event is for you if you’re:
— A Black or Brown woman seeking creative community outside of networking spaces
— Craving a way to decompress that doesn’t involve a screen
— Curious about art but convinced you’re “not creative”
— Looking for a solo adventure or a meaningful afternoon with a small group
— Ready to explore identity, freedom, and feeling through your hands
Men are warmly welcomed. All are invited to enter with openness and respect.
