Understanding light and shadow is key to creating realistic drawings.
In this 6-week foundational drawing course, you’ll explore the power of form and values using graphite, building essential skills that will strengthen all areas of your artwork. Through structured exercises and step-by-step instruction, you’ll learn how to see and apply values effectively, turning flat drawings into dynamic, three-dimensional forms.
Week 1: Introduction to Values – Learn how values create depth and realism in drawing.
Week 2: Value Layout & Drawing Review – Develop a structured approach to placing values within a drawing.
Week 3: Two-Value Blocking – Simplify complex subjects into light and dark shapes for stronger compositions.
Week 4: Understanding the Shadow Side – Explore how shadows define form and create depth.
Week 5: Understanding the Light Side – Learn how highlights and mid-tones shape objects and add realism.
Week 6: Drawing Basic Forms – Apply everything learned by rendering spheres, cones, cubes, and cylinders with realistic shading. By the end of this course, you’ll have a strong foundation in graphite drawing, allowing you to confidently create realistic forms and master the interplay of light and shadow. Join us and take your drawing skills to the next level!
